New York Mets Call Up Tobias Myers for Cincinnati Opener

The New York Mets are making a strategic move by calling up Tobias Myers to start their series opener against the Cincinnati Reds on Monday. Manager Carlos Mendoza confirmed that Myers is prepared to pitch the first 2-3 innings, with the possibility of transitioning to bulk pitcher David Peterson or utilizing a mix of relievers in a bullpen game. Myers, 27, was recently optioned to the Minors on May 30 due to a roster crunch, struggling with a 7.94 ERA over his last ten appearances. However, he has shown significant improvement in the Minors, not allowing an earned run in three outings for Triple-A Syracuse. In his last appearance, he threw 36 pitches over 2 2/3 innings, indicating he can handle 45-50 pitches on Monday. This season, Myers holds a 0-1 record with a 4.05 ERA. The Mets acquired him from the Milwaukee Brewers in the Freddy Peralta trade last offseason. If the Mets opt for a bullpen game, it would allow their other four starters an extra day of rest, showcasing their strategic depth as they face the Reds.
